Liverpool suffered their sixth defeat in seven Premier League games at the weekend.
Arne Slot’s position is once again being seriously questioned as Liverpool’s dramatic fall from grace continues.
The Reds recorded their sixth defeat in seven games on Saturday, as their hopes of defending their Premier League title have as good as vanished.
There is now huge unrest among the Liverpool fans and the serious debate over whether Slot should be sacked or not rages on.
Will Liverpool sack Arne Slot?
Naturally, the conversation is split when it comes to whether Slot’s time is running out at Anfield. The Dutch boss stormed to a dream maiden season with an unexpected Premier League title win but all of that is now crumbling beneath him.
Jamie Redknapp has urged his former side to ‘be patient’ with Slot amid this nightmarish run, but ex-Arsenal star Martin Keown believes Liverpool are ‘going backwards’ after spending nearly £450 million on new signings over the summer.
“We have to give credit to Forest for what they are doing but yes, the wheels are coming off now for Arne Slot,” Keown said on BBC Sport’s Final Score.
“They have simply been undone. Whether it’s a crisis I don’t know, it’s certainly a major problem for the manager to go six defeats from seven. Unthinkable.”
Who could replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager?
While uncertainty continues to shroud Liverpool’s season and Slot sack rumours swirl, potential candidates to replace the Dutchman are being named. We’ve cherry-picked three of the top names currently doing the rounds who could fit the bill at Anfield and rescue their dreadful season, should Liverpool make the decision to part ways with Slot.
Oliver Glasner
It only makes sense to include one of the biggest thorns in Slot’s side recently. Crystal Palace have seriously impressed under the reign of Glasner and have hit dizzying new heights with their rush of recent silverware.
Their fairytale triumph over Manchester City in the FA Cup marked their first ever major trophy lift, and it was nothing short of what they deserved.
The fruits of Glasner’s labour have been plentiful but with success comes rival interest. Just like the Crystal Palace players, other clubs are now looking to sign Glasner himself. If Liverpool were to axe Slot, the Austrian would be a good option to aim for.
Andoni Iraola
Similar to Glasner, Iraola is impressing while managing a club with a more ‘underdog’ status.
Liverpool are clear admirers of Bournemouth and the project unfolding at the club, hence the signing of Milos Kerkez over the summer. They were also interested in Dean Huijsen, who now plays for Real Madrid, while Antoine Semenyo is one of their leading transfer targets ahead of the new year.
The Reds had a tough time facing the Cherries at the start of the season, who are knocking on the door of the top four at this early stage. Bournemouth impressed with their ninth-place finish last season and are working on bettering that this time round.
The Reds enjoyed huge success and some of their most memorable moments under Klopp, and the 58-year-old departed with nothing but love and appreciation from the fans following him out the door.
“I don't imagine that the club will need my help in the future, but if the city needs me, I'm there,” Klopp said last year, following the news he would be leaving Anfield after nine years.
“I said I will never coach another team, a different team, in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool … yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
