Arne Slot brought up 50 Premier League matches as Liverpool boss in dismal fashion on Saturday.
The Dutchman hit the landmark with his team in the midst of a generationally bad run, and added to that with a diabolical 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.
In the space of two months, Slot has gone from being one of the Premier League’s most untouchable managers, to under genuine pressure of losing his job.

Rewind seven Premier League matches, and Slot’s record after 43 games looked fairly impeccable. But six losses out of the next seven have severely blemished it.
Nevertheless, looking back at the 47-year-old’s half-century of games as Liverpool head coach, and you can understand why some are so reticent to give him the boot.

Arne Slot has the best record after 50 league matches
Saturday’s loss was only the 10th time Slot has tasted defeat in the Premier League as Liverpool boss. Six of those have come in this season’s opening 12 games.
The facts are that the former Feyenoord manager has won far, far more than he’s lost with the Reds.
As statistician Ged Rea pointed out on X after the loss against Forest, Slot actually has more victories than any other manager in Liverpool history after 50 matches.

Slot has won 31 of the 50, beating Kenny Dalglish’s record by one game. Bill Shankly sits four back on 27, with Jurgen Klopp on 26. Not bad at all.
Liverpool are the only Premier League team not to draw a match this season, but the Reds have had nine stalemates under Slot.

In terms of goals scored, Liverpool have found the net 101 times in 50 games, at a rate of more than two per game. Their dismal defensive form this term has embellished their record at keeping the ball out at the other end, with opposition teams scoring 61 times against them.
As for points, the Reds have accrued 102 points across Slot’s 50 matches, which would still put them top of an accumulative Premier League table.
What can we learn from Slot’s half-century?
With plenty of talk that Slot should lose his job from Liverpool fans this weekend, his record after 50 matches may serve as a reminder of what he has achieved at Anfield.
There was always likely to be a dip from the halcyon days of Klopp, maybe we are just in the middle of a belated – but inevitable – slump.
What can be deduced is that Slot does have credit in the bank, but if he continues to lose matches that will quickly run out.
Should Liverpool sack Arne Slot?
“I want to emphasis one more time that I am responsible for the current losses. You are responsible when you’re winning, but you are also responsible when you’re losing.”

There has been much to celebrate about the Dutchman since his appointment in the summer of 2024, and that is laid bare in these numbers.
But Slot needs to turn things around quickly. He will not get another 50 matches to do it in, he can be sure of that.
