Pep Guardiola tells press to ‘ask the referees’ about questionable decisions

**Pep Guardiola**got his anger off his chest after a 2-1 defeat for **Man City**at Newcastle United.

Harvey Barnes bagged a brace for the Toon in an end-to-end clash where the hosts raised their level for their fans at St. James’ Park, but the City manager was right to feel aggrieved at the final whistle.

Phil Foden went under down a challenge from Fabian Schar in the penalty area in the first half, but the referee awarded nothing. Then, for Barnes’ second strike, Gianluigi Donnarumma felt he was fouled in the buildup before Bruno Guimaraes got on the right end of a tight offside call.

All three flashpoints paved the way to an exchange on the field between Guimaraes and Guardiola at full time, and the Spaniard spoke about his feelings on these incidents to the media.

"Newcastle is a top side, top players, top manager so unfortunately tonight we could not make the momentum that we had. It was entertaining game, we both had chances and then there was a momentum shift and ultimately we couldn't win.

"Both keepers were good and after we missed chances. It was an entertaining game with many chances. We were closer in the beginning. Always [it is frustrating to lose] but it is a football game and the opponent is playing and they played good too.

"[The second goal] it happened like that in the Bournemouth game and it happened today again. It is what it is after VAR decided. They know perfectly.

“Five questions about referees and the actions. Ask the referees. I didn’t see the images yet and nothing is going to change.

*“I played two FA Cup finals against Man United and Crystal Palace and oh my god, did I say something? Nothing. It is what it is. And I lost. The first thing I did on behalf of my club was congratulate Man United and Crystal Palace.”*
