Matheus Nunes: We didn't take our chances

It was an end-to-end game, but Manchester **City**were left to rue their missed chances and were punished in the second half by Newcastle United.

A Harvey Barnes double either side of Ruben Dias' deflected equaliser in the 68th minute has left City sitting in third in the Premier League table.

Speaking to City TV, right back Matheus Nunes explained how he felt it could've ended so different for the Blues.

“I think it could’ve been different. I think we had a lot of chances we could have converted, and we would be talking through a different game, but this is football," he said.

"We didn't take our chances; they took it, so it is what it is."

Nunes has made the right-back position his own since injuries to John Stones and Abdukodir Khusanov with his relentless energy up and down the right-hand side of the pitch, his directness with the ball, and he's defensive shrewdness, which shows how much he has improved in his new role over the past few months and will surely provide City boss, Pep Guardiola food for thought as **Stones**and Kkusanov were both back in contention with the games coming thick and fast.

He added: "Today wasn’t our day; if it were another day, we would’ve put all the balls into the net, and, like I said, the result would be different. I don’t think there is any magical explanation.

"Any defeat would be frustrating, but the good part is that we have another game in three days, and that’s our focus now."

City will hope to bounce back on Wednesday night, as they welcome Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen to the Etihad Stadium in **UEFA Champions League**Group Stage action.

Nunes also spoke about the competitiveness of the Premier League and where it leaves the Cityzens.

"There are still a lot of points to play, and pretty sure we’re going to be there in the end.”
