The Hawks are Jalen Johnson’s team now. Trae Young has only played in five games, and his 17.8 points per game are a career low and only third best on his own team. Jalen Johnson is averaging 22.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. He has completed his ascent from barely playable role player on the end of the bench to bona fide star.

Along with Johnson, the Hawks get a sort of committee approach to scoring. Young, Nickeil-Alexander Walker, Kristaps Porzingis, Onyeka Okongwu, Zaccharie Risacher, and Vit Krejci are all averaging double figures as well. Not on that list but equally if not more important than most of them is Dyson Daniels, who is probably the best perimeter defender in the league right now.

After a rough start, the Hawks have been playing some good ball. The Hornets have not been, and there’s no telling what the lineup is going to look like with LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller ramping up their involvement and Ryan Kalkbrenner and Pat Connaughton likely out. Let’s see how this goes.
