Obr Roundtable: Browns-Raiders Predictions

Fred Greetham

Browns 23

Raiders 17

It's hard to pick the Browns to win when week after week, we see them find a way to lose. They play well against good teams, but fall short, and they play badly against worse teams. Despite being on the road, Shedeur Sanders' first start should give the team renewed focus this week and help them secure a win. Whether he is the quarterback who gives the team and the fans hope remains to be seen, but for this week, it will.

I thought the Browns would take care of business against the Jets, but even after expecting nothing and being let down, I'm still picking them this week. The Raiders are not a good football team, and I think their offense will struggle to move the ball this week. Las Vegas's defense is middling, and with a full week of practice as the starter, I would expect Shedeur Sanders to play better than he did against Baltimore. If he can avoid self-inflicted mistakes, he has the talent to make the Cleveland offense more threatening than it's been all season.

I expect the Browns offense to look much more exciting with Shedeur Sanders under center. I expect them to be more fun to watch when they have the ball. However, for all the positivity I think we will see, I also think we will see some serious negative plays. Sacks that result in huge losses of yards, turnovers, and missed opportunities give a bad Raiders team good field position all game long, and they take advantage. The Browns lose another game that almost all of us think they could have won.

I’m hoping for a great performance from Sanders, but also a loss at the same time, as it would be beneficial for the Cleveland Browns because every draft spot can make a massive difference when you need a quarterback.

The key thing I’m looking forward to is the excitement in this game. You have Gabriel, where it almost feels like end-of-career Brees is the best outcome, with a quick, short-passing game. Whereas with Sanders, it feels like wider outcomes will happen. Some will be great, others will be frustrating. My feeling is that it could be the Winston rollercoaster experience incoming.

Have fun, see what Sanders can do, roll on the draft.

Shedeur Sanders has a huge opportunity, but he has to avoid the negative plays that have littered his career dating back to college. The Browns' defense should annihilate the Raiders' offense so long as they don't allow Brock Bowers and the tight ends to kill them, but the defense needs to show up on the road, and the offense and special teams need to avoid giving the game away.

The Browns defense is the difference again, defying their usual lapses in away games. Raiders quarterback Geno Smith has already thrown 13 interceptions, so there are turnovers to be had. On the other side of the ball, Sanders has a golden opportunity in front of him, and now he’s had his first full week of practice with the starters. Whether his bad habits from college continue remain to be seen, but the opportunity is there and Sanders knows it. It’ll be close, but a timely defensive turnover by the Browns will make the difference in this one.

The ominous weight of history sits heavily on Shedeur Sanders' shoulders. A Browns quarterback hasn't won in his first start since 1995, so we're expecting a different result from a 2-8 team whose new starting quarterback looked awful last week? It doesn't make sense. I'm going to take the safe route here and prognosticate a Browns loss, since that's the result that keeps happening.
