Alexander Isak breaks 119-year record as Liverpool supporters turn on former Newcastle United…

Newcastle United v Man City: Preview & latest injury news

Alexander Isak’s nightmare since ditching Newcastle United continues after Liverpool were thrashed 3-0 by Nottingham Forest.

Alexander Isak is the first Liverpool player to lose in their first four starts since Percy Saul in October 1906.

Breaking a 119-year record is the newest low for the £130million striker since downing tools to leave Newcastle United. Toon fans - despite enduring a mixed start to the season - have taken solace from the Swede’s dismal start at Anfield.

Isak has repaid the British record fee with just one Carabao Cup goal from nine games. Liverpool were thrashed 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest, with the former Toon favourite hooked on 68 minutes to pile further pressure on Arne Slot.

Liverpool fans turn on Alexander Isak

Amid a wave of memes and Newcastle mockery, Liverpool fans appeared to turn on Isak by questioning his mammoth price tag. Here is a compilation of what Reds supporters were saying about the striker following their latest shock setback.

another disastrous performance from Isak, what an awful decision to sign him

Starting Isak for me would be a mistake the guy isn’t fit man

I hate to say it, but it may have been a mistake to buy Isak without wingers who can deliver service. Ekitike shines because he can feast off the scraps and he’s a little more unpredictable. Isak is used to getting the ball in certain spots, and these boys don’t do that.

I dont understand why we spent 200m on strikers and are playing a system that literally doesn’t utilise the centre forward at all. Isak may as well not be there

‘I am responsible’ - Arne Slot

Liverpool boss Arne Slot took full responsibility for the current run of form when grilled by reporters. He said: “No one wants to hear me now talking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 at home to Forest. I should look at myself first and my team, but it does show you how a goal can change the momentum of a game.

“Before I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Afterwards we hardly created anything. Of course there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have. No matter if you win or lose when you look back you are always thinking: ‘Where can we do better, where can we adjust?’ but that is something else from doubting yourself.

“I want to emphasise that I am responsible for the current losses. You are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never come up with enough excuses for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.”

Eddie Howe on strained Alexander Isak relationship

When grilled by reporters in September, Eddie Howe admitted that his relationship with Isak became strained once he went on strike. The Toon boss said: "Alex and I always enjoyed a great relationship," he said. "I loved working with him. I hope he enjoyed working with us.

“It was mutually beneficial. We helped him become the player he in part is today and he helped us as a team achieve some unbelievable milestones and was part of a very successful team. The moment he went on strike our relationship did change and that was probably a turning point in our relationship."
