Commanders to play another international game next season

The Washington Commanders will be the designated home team for another overseas game next year after playing in Madrid last weekend.

The Commaders have played abroad twice. They lost 16-13 to the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 16 in the NFL’s first-ever game in Spain, and tied the Cincinnati Bengals in London in 2016.

Next season’s foreign location has not been announced.

“For the franchise, it allows us to tap into a new audience and to begin to expand on a much more global level. … I see it both as a great fan opportunity, but I also see it as a really good business opportunity for the franchise as well,” Commanders president Mark Clouse told The Athletic.

The NFL has confirmed games next season in Melbourne, Australia, where the Los Angeles Rams will be the home team, along with Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City.

The league will also have another game in Germany, though the city has not been confirmed. The Jacksonville Jaguars are projected to play two games in London, according to Athlon Sports.
