The head coach was deemed too unwell to feature on the touchline.

Liverpool sit in eleventh place in the table after falling to their sixth Premier League defeat in twelve games last night.

Anfield hasn’t been its usual indestructible self this season, with Morgan Gibbs-White admitting after beating the Reds that his side found it “comfortable” even without the ball.

Despite the men’s team’s woes as of late, the Liverpool women’s certainly had something to cheer about as they fired themselves in to the quarterfinals of the Subway Women’s League Cup with a 4-1 win against Sheffield United last night.

Liverpool Women have now completed the perfect group stage, after winning three out of their three games.

Beata Olsson continued her fine start to the season as her hat-trick put the Reds firmly in control.

The Swedish striker makes it six goals in his last four appearances.

Mia Enderby made sure of the win as he added the fourth goal against her former side.

However, head coach Gareth Taylor missed the game through illness, so was unable to watch the victory unfold.

As a result, assistant coaches Chad Gribble and Amber Whiteley took charge.

The draw for the last eight will take place on Tuesday.

Despite enjoying a perfect League Cup campaign, Liverpool are struggling in the Women’s Super League.

Losing players like vice-captain Taylor Hinds and talented youngster Olivia Smith to Arsenal in the summer has clearly hurt them and the ladies currently sit rock bottom of the WSL in 12th place.

They will need to use the momentum of yet another impressive win in the League Cup to push on in the WSL and turn their season around.
