Opinion: Troy Parrott has just put Everton on red alert yet again

Everton are exploring a deal to sign Republic of Ireland and AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott this January transfer window.

Everton had scouts watching Troy Parrott during the international break, and he certainly would’ve left a big impression.

Parrott netted two goals against Portugal and a hat-trick against Hungary to send Ireland to the World Cup play-offs.

David Moyes and his recruitment staff will be keeping tabs on his game for Alkmaar this afternoon, and he may have now put them on red alert.

Everton actually tried to sign Parrott long before his rise, so they’ve been aware of his talent for some time now.

It’s understood Alkmaar value Parrott at around £31m, so it’s a feasible deal to do for the Toffees this winter.

The 23-year-old was in action for the Dutch outfit this afternoon, and fresh off the back of his five goals for Ireland during the break, he scored yet again against Heerenveen.

Parrott took the ball beautifully on the half-turn and stroked the ball home in cool fashion, showing Everton scouts exactly what he’s about.

Some Toffees supporters aren’t totally convinced by Parrott, but if he continues to score goals like that, he’ll certainly win them over.

What is your prediction for Man United vs Everton?

Troy Parrott totally different profile to Beto and Thierno Barry

What makes the Parrott signing interesting is that he’s a totally different profile of striker to Beto and Thierno Barry.

The current Everton centre-forwards are tall and powerful, so naturally, their strengths are running in behind and using their physicality.

Parrott is much more of a fox in the box, and that’s evinced by his FBref stats. The former Tottenham Hotspur prospect ranks very high for touches in the penalty area, evincing his terrific movement.

Player Touches in Attacking Penalty Area (per 90)

Thierno Barry 4.78

Beto 5.12

Troy Parrott 6.17

His potential signing would actually give Moyes the opportunity to line up with two strikers, as Parrott and Barry could actually really complement each other.

Of course, there is risk attached to the deal, as Parrott did struggle in the Championship when he was younger.
