Arsenal injury nightmare as weakened north London derby team vs Tottenham named

Mikel Arteta has taken the huge decision to snub both Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard from his starting side.

The Gunners are looking to extend their lead at the top of the table - after a number of [Premier League](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/latest/premier-league) results went their way on Saturday. However, they will do with without Gyokeres and Odegaard.

The Swedish striker, who was signed in the summer, picked up a knock earlier this month - but Arteta has been hoping to have him at his disposal for the clash. Odegaard is also out injured and in his pre-match programme notes, he spoke about the importance of the fixture.

“This is the perfect game for the squad to come back to after the international break.

“It’s a special fixture, always a big one, and everyone wants to play in it. Everyone is excited for this game, it’s always an incredible atmosphere, and you just can’t wait to get out there.”

However, perhaps the biggest miss for Arteta will be Gabriel - who hobbled off the pitch during Brazil's friendly with Senegal over the international break.

Gary Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, said: "He \[Gabriel\] is a big loss. When you see those two at the back, straight away you're thinking that there's not a lot going to happen attacking wise for the other team.

"Put the goalkeeper on top of that. The full-backs and the midfield protection. They are a formidable outfit defensively and he is a big part of that. They have to step up.

No one is going to buy into 'we haven't got Gabriel, that's why we dropped a few points. That's why we lost the league.

"I'm sorry, this has been going on for four years now. You have to live without your best players sometimes. Mosquera as done a very good job.

"He's good, he's solid. Go keep a clean sheet without Gabriel. That's the job today."

Naming his squad, Arteta selected: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, Calafiori, Zubimendi, Rice, Eze, Trossard, Saka, Merino.

Making up the bench is: Arrizabalaga, Mosquera, White, Martinelli, Norgaard, Madueke, Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly, Dowman.
