A supercomputer has predicted Liverpool's final position in the Premier League this season - based upon 100,000 simulations. Following the club's recent defeat to Nottingham Forest, Arne Slot's side currently sit 11th in the table with six wins and six losses.

It has been a quick turn of events for Liverpool, who started the season perfectly by winning all of their first five games. But now, they have won just three in 11 in all competitions. Although Liverpool fans are sure to be feeling down, Sky Sports' supercomputer has envisioned a brighter future for the club this season.

These simulated tables were created ahead of this weekend's fixtures. First, Sky Sports showed what the Premier League table should have looked like heading into the weekend based on expected goals (xG).

Arsenal remain top of the table with Manchester City in second position. Crystal Palace sit in third, while Liverpool complete the top four positions. The Reds have the highest average possession this term - but are ninth in average goals per match.

XG is a heavily debated stat in football regarding how important it truly is. Leeds United started the weekend in the relegation zone but, according to their expected points - via xG - they should actually be seventh above the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa, who are way down in 16th.

But the supercomputer-predicted table, which takes its results from an average of 100,000 simulations, also gives fans a glimpse into the future. It takes its data from remaining fixtures, betting odds, performance data and more.

According to the machine, Arsenal would win the league with an expected points tally of 78.4, while Man City are tipped to finish runners-up, six points behind the Gunners.

But what might catch the Anfield faithful by surprise - given their current form - is that Liverpool are predicted to finish the season in third spot. Admittedly, there are still plenty of games to be played, so Slot's squad could come good soon.

Liverpool would just edge out Chelsea on predicted points, with the Reds on 66.7 and the Blues on 66.2. After a difficult start to the new campaign, Liverpool's supporters would likely be happy with a Champions League spot.

Another standout position is Sunderland in ninth. It would be the first time in three seasons that all the promoted clubs didn't go straight back down to the Championship. The Black Cats would break that trend.

They wouldn't be the only promoted club staying up, as Leeds are predicted to finish 15th, with Burnley the only one set to be relegated along with West Ham United and Wolves. Everton are predicted to finish 13th.

A third-place finish for Liverpool would be their second in three years - having finished there during the 2023/24 season. Crucially, they went on to win the Premier League the following year.

Slot's side will face a mixed run of opponents in their next five league games. They start with a trip to West Ham next weekend, followed by the first festive midweek fixture against a high-flying Sunderland side.

Another promoted team follows as Liverpool travel to Elland Road to face Leeds. A home game against Brighton and an away clash with Tottenham Hotspur close out their next five league games.

In between those fixtures, Liverpool are in Champions League action - twice. They host PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on Wednesday night, followed by a trip to Italy to face Inter Milan in early December.
