Former Everton striker Tom Cannon finally scores for Sheffield United

Tom Cannon was a highly rated youngster at Everton, but PSR restrictions forced them to sanction his £7.5m sale to Leicester City in 2023.

Cannon never really got a chance at Leicester and ended up going out on loan to Stoke City, where he ripped it up.

That earned him a substantial £10m transfer to Sheffield United in January, but the transfer has so far proved to be a disaster.

Chris Wilder even brutally excluded Cannon from the squad earlier this season, and fans have been branding him a complete flop.

But, the Toffees academy graduate finally got his long-awaited goal against fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

It was Cannon’s first goal since April and only his second goal for the Blades since joining at the start of the year.

Tom Cannon was visibly emotional after the game

You could see what that goal meant for Cannon in his celebration, as he raced away to the away supporters and cupped his ears.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the former Everton star was clearly emotional.

“Yeah it meant a lot. Listen, it’s been hard coming to a new team obviously, in January now, it’s took time to come in and settle.

“Obviously, I’ve had a few setbacks with injuries, so it’s been hard. To get that goal, it means the world, so yeah it’s a great win.

“I’ve got full self-belief, I don’t listen to the negative noise or anything like that, just stay tunnel vision. The main thing is the three points.”
