The Red Devils are progressing in talks to sign a player linked to Liverpool on several occasions.
As Liverpool’s form continues to dip, they will have one eye on the transfer market as January approaches.
The goal will be to strengthen the squad, as despite a record-breaking £450m being spent in the summer, multiple outgoings have still left Arne Slot’s squad depth surprisingly weak.
That is beginning to hurt the Reds, as Liverpool see themselves in 11th place, with six defeats in twelve Premier League games this season.
Whilst it is all well and good thinking about the idea of bringing in reinforcements, other clubs have already started pushing ahead with their transfer plans.
According to Trivela, Manchester United are in advanced negotiations to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, a player consistently linked to Liverpool in recent years.
In the summer of 2023, whilst Liverpool were looking for midfield reinforcements, Joao Gomes popped on to Liverpool’s radar.
However, no move materialised as the Brazil international gave his word to Flamengo to stay for one more season.
As a result, Liverpool turned their attention to seasoned midfielder Wataru Endo, who joined the Reds that summer.
Since signing for Wolves in the summer of 2024, Gomes has impressed, and he is now attracting significant interest from the red side of Manchester.
As it stands, new Wolves coach Rob Edwards has urged the board of his new club not to negotiate for his main players until the end of the season, including Joao Gomes.
However, if a big offer comes in from Manchester United, and any potential deal is rumoured to be in the region of 50million euros, he could be headed to Old Trafford, despite Gomes once claiming Liverpool was his dream club.
In August 2022, prior to his move to Wolves, Gomes said: “Liverpool is a team I would play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and my family’s, my biggest dream in football.”
It remains to be seen which club Gomes will head to next, as many players will look to leave if Wolverhampton Wanderers are to be relegated this season, as they currently sit rock bottom with two points won from twelve games.
