Jamie Gittens has claimed that Chelsea's 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday lunchtime proved to be a morale-boosting one. The Blues moved up to 2nd in the Premier League, closing the gap on league leaders Arsenal to three points ahead of the North London Derby.
The summer signing provided the assist for the opening goal at Turf Moor as Pedro Neto found the back of the net. Enzo Fernandez ensured there would be no late scares, putting a second past Martin Dubravka to seal the three points.
Speaking to the BBCafter the victory, Gittens explained how happy the squad were to win, especially in the lunchtime kick-off slot, fresh off the back of an international break.
"It was a hard-fought win. To come to Burnley and get three points, is good for us. We feel more confident.
"We expected it to be a really tough game and fighting for the second balls, and we did really well today. To come back and play at 12:30 on Saturday is not easy, and I am happy we got the win."
It was a simply superb delivery that helped unlock a stubborn Burnley backline and, more importantly, break the deadlock as Pedro Neto arrived on scene to tuck away a diving header into the back of the net.
Gittens has expressed his delight with his assist for the opening goal, explaining that it is something that he has been practising back at Cobham training ground.
"I have been working on that in training, and it came off in the game. I am happy it came off. Pedro got there in the end.
"We are definitely more confident and more comfortable playing with each other. We are going to keep working hard as a team."
Chelsea now face what could potentially be a season-defining week, with tough tests in both the League and on the European scene as they take on both Barcelona and Arsenal.
