Liverpool’s season has taken another sharp turn, and Saturday’s 3–0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield has brought new questions.

This is not a normal rough patch.

It is a moment that has pushed many observers to reassess what Liverpool are doing under Arne Slot.

The Premier League is already tense this season

Liverpool used to be the side that punished teams lik these.

They used to be the ones others feared.

But right now, the Reds look short of confidence and short of basics.

That is why so many people are reacting strongly.

One of those voices is Gary Neville.

His reaction summed up the concern around the club.

But he did not rush to attack the players or the manager.

Instead, he laid out what he thinks Liverpool must do urgently.

Neville spoke before Arsenal vs Tottenham and admitted that Liverpool’s defeat shocked him.

He said via Sky Sports, “It wasn’t on television so I’ve only watched the highlights.”

“But when the result came through, I was stunned. It was a ‘wow’ moment.”

He pointed out that Forest beat Liverpool at Anfield last season, but this year’s situation made the loss harder to explain.

He said this Forest team has not been strong, while Liverpool, despite a slow start, “are still strong at home.”

That is why, in his words, “it’s a worry.”

Neville made it clear he was not trying to “pile in,” noting that teams with a proven squad are “allowed a dip.”

But he added that “ordinarily, it wouldn’t get this bad.”

“They have to stop it now. They have to intervene.”

He then explained what he thinks Slot must do.

Neville said, “I think when you’re losing and going through a run like that, you have to strip everything back to its foundations and go back to basics.”

He also advised more “detail, focus and concentration.”

And he stressed the need to reset, saying the manager “might have to be a little bit more basic… keep clean sheets… be more solid,” and “pretend you’re starting from scratch.”

His final warning was clear, “It’s more than a blip now.”

“It’s getting to a really concerning point now if you’re a Liverpool fan.”
