The Spurs boss had switched to a back five for their trip to face the Gunners as he took a more defensive approach.
However, the visitors found themselves two goals down before half-time on Sunday afternoon.
Despite being frustrated for much of the first half, Arsenal took the lead through Leandro Trossard before Eberechi Eze doubled their lead.
The England international then added a second less than a minute after the start of the second half.

Although Richarlison pulled a goal back for the visitors, his stunning 40-yard lob of David Raya proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Instead, Eze completed his hat-trick to secure a fourth consecutive derby victory for Arsenal.
'Dreadful' Spurs display
talkSPORT's Alex Crook was left 'disappointed' by the performance from Frank's men, notably during the first half.
Speaking on GameDay Live, he explained: "I'm just, I'm really disappointed in Spurs.
"No, but even (Cristian) Romero there, not for the first time. The ball's up in the air, he's got no composure.
"They don't believe that they can get anything from this game. Tottenham."

He continued as Eze doubled Arsenal's lead, adding: "And here come Arsenal again with Eze, it's a question of how many they get. There's the second. I told you, game over.
"And it's Eberechi Eze again. And it's absolutely dreadful defending from Tottenham. Romero made the initial mistake.
"Then they passed it straight back to Eze. They let him waltz into space on the edge of the area. And I think (Guglielmo) Vicario could do better as well. Arsenal won't be complaining.
"This is how many now they beat their north London rivals by."
Eze would go on to score twice more in the second half to complete his hat-trick, the first of his senior career.
It is only the fourth treble in a competitive meeting between the two sides and the first since Alan Sunderland's for the Gunners in December 1978.

The 27-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Spurs before his £67.5million arrival at Arsenal from Crystal Palace in August.
Spurs had agreed a deal with Palace for Eze's signature only for their rivals to swoop in and hijack the deal.

Eze has since scored five goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances for his new club.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are now unbeaten in their last 15 matches across all competitions dating back to a defeat to Liverpool almost three months ago.
