GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAW) -The Green Bay Packers welcome back Aaron Jones and the Vikings for the first of two meetings between the NFC North rivals this year.
The big questions in this one, Would the Packers’ offense get going against a struggling Minnesota team?
First quarter, the Vikings would strike first with a 52 yard field goal kick from Will Reichard. Minnesota looking to score on any opportunity in this one, as their offense has also struggled in recent weeks.
Later in the quarter, the Pack would have a 7-play, 70 yard touchdown drive. Emanuel Wilson would score for a second time in 2 games as the Green-and-Gold take the lead, 7-3.
Onto the second quarter, the Vikings find themselves driving down field with a healthy dose of the run game. But it would be a massive stop on 4th-and-1 by Kingsley Enagbare, only his 7th tackle of the season.
With 2-and-a-half minutes left in the half, the Packers would try for a field goal. Despite the recent issues at the position, Brandon McManus would send it perfectly between the uprights, extending the Packers lead to 10-3.
The Vikings would need QB JJ McCarthy to throw the ball downfield fast in order to score late into the half, but some risky throws lead to a near-interception, with receiver Justin Jefferson coming up huge with the catch.
McCarthy would get sacked to back Minnesota up, where they would try for a 59-yard field goal. Will Reichard, completing his second deep 3-point try of the game.
Packers lead 10-6 at the half.
In the 3rd quarter, the Packers would punt early. But it would be Vikings’ rookie Myles price would let the ball go over his head and start blocking, leading to the Pack pushing him into the ball and recovering the fumble.
2 plays later, Emanuel Wilson would run in his second touchdown of the game.
It would be all Packers from here on out. Brandon McManus would get some much-needed field goal practice, drilling 2 more to drive the score up, 23-6.
Green Bay’s defense, too much for the inexperienced McCarthy, who would go on to throw 2 interceptions in consecutive drives.
The Cheese Heads would win it at home against their rivals in purple, 23-6.
