Injury Recap: Steelers Suffer Multiple Injuries In Loss To Bears

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin offered an injury update following the team’s 31-28 loss to the Chicago Bears Sunday afternoon. Per Tomlin, DK Metcalf, Joey Porter Jr., and Broderick Jones were hurt today.

“DK got an ankle,” Tomlin said via the team’s YouTube channel after the game. “You saw him go back in. Joey Porter got a hip flexor; he wasn’t able to return. Broderick Jones had stingers. I don’t have any further description of that. I think he’ll be examined.”

Jones suffered a stinger in a freak moment at the end of a Mason Rudolph pass. A Bears defender jumped into Jones and seemingly pulled him by the neck. Jones showed extreme frustration on the sideline, slamming his helmet down as trainers walked him back to the locker room. He was deemed questionable but did not return. Calvin Anderson replaced him and logged his first offensive snaps of the season.

Metcalf battled an ankle injury throughout the game. Initially hurt after blockers landed on him in the first half, he re-injured himself after TE Jonnu Smith fell on him during a designed tight end run. Metcalf finished out the game but recorded just five catches for 22 yards on eight targets.

Porter was in and out of the game with knee and hip injuries. Injured with the latter a second time, he did not return. Darius Slay, who had not played until Porter’s injuries, replaced him.

Pittsburgh came into the game with several injuries. QB Aaron Rodgers was held out due to a fracture in his left wrist. A game-time decision, Tomlin noted Mason Rudolph would start about two hours before kickoff. Rodgers did not dress and did not serve as the emergency third-string quarterback. Tomlin indicated he expects Rodgers to return in Week 13.

Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith missed his second-straight game with a pec injury. He was limited to end the week but listed as doubtful on the team’s final injury report and downgraded to out on Saturday. Nick Herbig replaced him, scoring off T.J. Watt’s first-half sack/fumble.

Pittsburgh and Buffalo kick off at 4:25 PM/EST next weekend.
