‘He can create magic’: Arteta praises Eze after his hat-trick in North London derby win

Arsenal claimed bragging rights over Tottenham Hotspur as they defeated Spurs 4-1 at the Emirates on Sunday thanks to Eberechi Eze’s hat-trick and Leandro Trossard’s strike.

In the 36th minute, Trossard opened the scoring for the host after he was picked out brilliantly by Merino, and the Belgian found the bottom left corner.

Five minutes later, Eze doubled the Gunners’ advantage as he was found by Declan Rice, and the midfielder wriggled his way into the box before slotting home a low strike.

A minute after the restart, Eze doubled his tally after he was picked out by Timber, who then drilled in a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

10 minutes into the second half, Richarlison pulled one back for the visitors after Zubimendi was dispossessed in midfield by Bentancur, and the Brazilian produced a first-time lob, catching Raya off his line.

Eze sealed his hat-trick in the 76th minute after Trossard’s cutback found him at the edge of the box before releasing a curling effort into the net.

He becomes just the third Arsenal player to score a hat-trick against Arsenal and the first in 37 years.

Speaking to the [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cn7kye12z5zo), Arteta said, “It’s a very special day for us. We knew the importance of the match and what it means to our fans. To be able to give them that joy, it’s a beautiful day.”

**On Eberechi Eze becoming only the fourth ever player to score a hat-trick in the North London derby**: “That tells you about the difficulty and what he’s done today. To be fair, he could have scored four or five. He’s a big player who can create magic moments which unbalance a team.

“We dominated every part of the game. We created massive chances and had a lot of actions that we were very close to scoring. We stayed patient.

“Whoever we put in there, they do the jobs for us. This squad has the belief and quality to deliver consistently.

“We have really good momentum, but you can see how difficult every game in the Premier League is. It’s a long run; let’s go game by game. Let’s enjoy tonight; then we have Bayern here and Chelsea away. We have a tough week.”

The Gunners host Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night before making a short trip across the capital to face London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
