Entering Shedeur Sanders’ first start as Cleveland’s quarterback on Sunday, the Browns had lost 17 consecutive games with a first-time starter at QB.
But the streak stopped with the fifth-round rookie as Cleveland defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 24-10, with former Pike Road High School star Quinshon Judkins staking the Browns to a 14-0 lead.
Cleveland had to gain only 13 yards for its first touchdown, and Judkins took a direct snap and ran 8 yards for the game’s first points with 8:24 left in the first quarter.
Judkins scored again on a 2-yard run with 48 seconds left in the first quarter after Sanders connected with wide receiver Isaiah Bond for a 52-yard gain to the Las Vegas 2-yard line.
Sanders completed 11-of-20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Sanders was in the lineup after fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel went down with a concussion in the Browns’ previous game.
Judkins was among the 27 players from Alabama high schools and colleges (excluding Alabama and Auburn) who got on the field on the 12th Sunday of the NFL’s 106th season.
Four other former state players were involved in the Cleveland-Las Vegas game:
Mohamoud Diabate (Auburn High) started at linebacker for the Browns. Diabate made one tackle.
Browns safety Christopher Edmonds (Samford) made one tackle on special teams.
Browns linebacker Nathaniel Watson (Maplesville) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.
Browns defensive end Alex Wright (Elba, UAB) was designated as a game-day inactive. A quadriceps injury kept Wright out of the lineup.

Steelers defensive tackle Brodric Martin-Rhodes (Northridge, North Alabama) was designated as a game-day inactive.
Steelers punter Corliss Waitman (South Alabama) punted three times for a 35.3-yard average with no return yards. Waitman had a 34-yard punt that went out of bounds at the Chicago 40-yard line, a 39-yarder to a fair catch at the Chicago 27 and a 33-yarder downed at the Chicago 44.
New England Patriots 26, Cincinnati Bengals 20
Bengals defensive end Cedric Johnson (Davidson) made two tackles.
Marcus Jones (Enterprise, Troy) started at cornerback for the Partriots. Jones made five tackles, intercepted one pass and broke up another. Jones picked off quarterback Joe Flacco and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown as New England took a 14-10 lead with 7:42 left in the first half.

Bengals kicker Evan McPherson (Fort Payne) made the longest field goal in franchise history when he connected from 63 yards on the final snap of the first half. McPherson started the scoring with a 54-yard field goal with 6:36 left in the first quarter. McPherson made both his extra-point kicks, too.

Jameis Winston (Hueytown) started at quarterback for the Giants. Winston completed 18-of-36 passes for 366 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and ran four times for 13 yards. Winston threw touchdown passes of 39 yards to wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson for the game’s first points with 12:56 left in the first quarter and 12 yards to wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins as New York went up 17-7 with 8:21 left in the first half. Winston scored a 33-yard touchdown on his first NFL reception. He caught a pass from wide receiver Gunner Olszewski as the Giants took a 27-17 lead with 12:16 remaining.
