Eric Garcia has slowly but surely become one of Hansi Flick’s most important pieces on the field, and his versatility has a big part to play in the same.
Initially a centre-back by trade, the Spaniard was asked to fill in at right-back last season after Jules Kounde’s injury late in the season.
His level in the new position surprised many, making him one of Flick’s go-to options in the department.
In recent days, however, he has also shown a great ability to play as a pivot and was monumental in Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Athletic Club back at Spotify Camp Nou on a night when Pedri and Frenkie de Jong were unavailable.
As relayed in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, the defender has won the hearts of Hansi Flick and the Barcelona management through his ability to play wherever needed and understand what exactly is expected of him, irrespective of the position.
The management sees him to be an example of professionalism who places the game ahead of any other priority in his life.

Garcia does not insist on any particular role and is more than happy to help out wherever needed.
“You can put him as a striker and he will perform too,” is the message heard from the coaching staff, who can do nothing but applaud his willingness to place the team first.
Many within the club see him to be a future leader for the dressing room thanks to the message he silently spreads and his behaviour behind the scenes.
After all, he is the example that several young players, who currently struggle for minutes, will look up to.
Going forward this season, it remains to be seen how many more positions Garcia will play owing to circumstances, but one can be sure that he will deliver.
