Five players could miss Liverpool vs PSV

Liverpool FC have no time to sulk after the defeat to Nottingham Forest with PSV in the Champions League already on the horizon.

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Wednesday night when they welcome PSV Eindhoven to Anfield, desperate to use European football as a refuge from their Premier League nightmare.

The Reds sit eighth in the Champions League table with nine points from four matches, having secured victories over Eintracht Frankfurt (5-1) and Real Madrid (1-0) in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, PSV occupy 18th position with five points, though the Dutch side arrive on Merseyside in strong domestic form with four wins and one draw from their last five matches across all competitions.

For Arne Slot, Wednesday’s encounter is potentially season-defining. Fresh off a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest—their sixth loss in seven Premier League matches—the under-fire manager needs a positive result against his compatriots to steady the ship.

But both sides have some injury issues heading into the clash.

Conor Bradley

Liverpool’s young right-back has suffered yet another setback in what has become an injury-plagued season.

The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international sustained a muscle injury while on international duty and will be sidelined for the next three weeks.

Manager Arne Slot revealed in his pre-Nottingham press conference that he doesn’t expect Bradley to feature “in the next 22 days, maybe at the end, unless a miracle happens, which I don’t expect”.

Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool’s summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen continues his frustrating rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained during the Reds’ 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22.

The Dutch full-back has been pictured back in training and running outdoors at the AXA Training Centre, signaling progress in his recovery.

However, Slot confirmed that Frimpong remains unavailable and is unlikely to return for another two to three weeks. The 24-year-old has endured a difficult start to life at Anfield.

Giovanni Leoni

The teenager faces the longest road to recovery of any player on this list. The 18-year-old Italian suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament tear on his Liverpool debut against Southampton in the EFL Cup on September 23.

Leoni, who joined from Parma for £26 million in the summer, had impressed during his 80 minutes on the pitch.

Alassane Plea

PSV’s summer recruit from Borussia Mönchengladbach has been ruled out for several months after suffering serious cartilage damage to his knee. The 32-year-old French forward sustained the injury during PSV’s 2-0 away victory at FC Twente on August 17

The Dutch club announced that Plea would miss “the remainder of the first half of the season and (part of) the second half,” with his estimated return not expected until late January 2026 at the earliest.

Ruben van Bommel

PSV’s talented young winger will miss the rest of the 2025-26 season after suffering a serious knee injury during the Eredivisie clash against Ajax on September 20.

The 21-year-old is the son of former Netherlands international Mark van Bommel.
