'I see' - Bayern Munich president makes Jurgen Klopp manager return claim amid Arne Slot…

Liverpool 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Match Review

Jurgen Klopp spent nine years as Liverpool manager where he etched himself into club folklore.

A Bayern Munich chief believes that Jurgen Klopp will not remain in his Red Bull role for the long term.

Klopp made the shock decision to leave his role as Liverpool manager at the end of the 2023-24 season. The German spent nine years in the Anfield hot seat where he established himself in legendary status. Klopp engineered the Reds’ return to the pinnacle of European football. He won seven major trophies, including the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League the following year.

After his exit, Klopp has claimed he does not see himself returning to management. Instead, he surprisingly took the role of head of global soccer for Red Bull Group, which sees him work with the likes of RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and New York Red Bulls.

Klopp has been one of the best managers since the turn of the century, having won two Bundesliga titles as Borussia Dortmund boss. At the time of his Liverpool exit, only Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was arguably better than Klopp.

What’s been said

Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s former president and now honorary president, claimed that the German giants did not try to add Klopp to the Allianz Arena hierarchy because he sees him ‘on the pitch’.

Via BILD, Hoeness said: “I could never imagine him as an official travelling around the country, to New York, looking after the various teams. And I don’t think that will be a good model in the long run. I also don’t think he’ll do that forever, I can’t imagine it.

"I have always admired Jurgen Klopp as a coach who is on the pitch, who develops a team, who moves a team forward with his personality. I see Jurgen Klopp on the pitch and nowhere else.”

What has Klopp said about potential Liverpool return?

Klopp was replaced by Arne Slot in the Liverpool hot seat. Slot was a relatively unheralded figure arriving from Feyenoord yet he quickly made his mark and guided the Reds to the Premier League title in his maiden campaign.

However, Liverpool have made a disastrous start to the defence of their English championship despite spending circa £450 million in the summer transfer window. The 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest was the Reds’ sixth defeat in seven league games, leaving them 11 points behind leaders Arsenal in the table.

As a result, Slot has come under some pressure in his role as head coach. If the run of defeats continue then owners Fenway Sports Group may be forced to make a decision over the Dutchman’s future. If that was the case, sections of Kopites would hope to see Klopp return.

Speaking to podcastDiary of a CEO, Klopp has said it’s ‘theoritically possible’ he could return to Liverpool in the future but does not see himself going back into the dugout.

"I don't know exactly, I love what I do right now. I don't miss coaching, I do coach now but just different,” Klopp said. “I don't miss standing in the rain, two-and-a-half [to] three hours; I don't miss going to press conferences three times a week, and having 12 interviews a week. I don't miss that; I don't.

"I don't miss being in the dressing room, I coached something like 1,080 games so I was in a dressing room often. I don't want to die in a dressing room because it's nice. It smells.

I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it's Liverpool, theoretically it's possible,"I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it's Liverpool, theoretically it's possible.”
