1948 World Series Championship ring.Tom Schwarz, Lelands

The ring, from Balfour, was presented to famed scout Hugh Alexander. Alexander, born in 1917, was an incredible outfield prospect in Cleveland’s farm system. After stellar play in the minors, Cleveland called him up at age 20 for seven games in August and September of 1938. That off-season, working in the oil fields in Oklahoma, Alexander lost his left hand in a drilling accident. He would go on to become one of the youngest scouts in history and have a decades-long career finding players for Major League teams. 1964 Cleveland Browns championship ring.Tom Schwarz, Lelands

The ring was given to Abe Abraham, the Browns’ “No. 1 Fan in the Brown Suit.” Abraham, originally from Lebanon, owned a restaurant and delicatessen in Strongsville. He had been assigned by the Browns to catch extra-point and field-goal attempts in the closed end of Cleveland Municipal Stadium at Browns games. Abraham always wore a brown suit. He began the job by accident, in 1946 when Lou Groza was the Browns’ kicker. Abraham was working for the Browns at the pass gate, and he was tasked with delivering a message to the other side of the field. Abraham walked just behind the goal posts when Groza was attempting a field goal. Abraham instinctively caught the ball, and his second career was launched. Later, he said the Cleveland team doctor treated him for bruised ribs. Abraham’s last game came Dec. 11, 1981, when the New York Jets defeated the Browns, 14-13.
