Enzo Fernandez’s recent performances for Chelsea are making one thing very clear to fans.
It’s now 11 goals and ten assists in 2025 for the Argentinian — the most productive Chelsea player by far.
Fernandez was key to both Chelsea goals against Burnley, scoring at the death to seal the result.
His numbers are even more impressive when you consider the different roles he has been deployed in by Enzo Maresca, sometimes playing in the 10, but more often taking up a deeper position.
Since reaching that milestone, there has been quite a bit of buzz amongst the Chelsea support, who are all saying the same thing about the World Cup winner.
Chelsea fans think Enzo Fernandez has become underrated
The fee Chelsea had to shell out for Fernandez in 2023 has stuck to him, and it hasn’t been to his benefit. The increased scrutiny that comes with such a price tag made it difficult for him to meet expectations.
But the last year has seen him grow into a leading role for the Blues. Key figures at Chelsea say Fernandez is the most improved player, and the fans are in full agreement.
After another brilliant display on Saturday, one fan said: “Enzo’s owning 2025! 21 involvements — pure class from the midfield maestro.”
This fan agrees, remarking: “Enzo has been a different beast this year. From midfield control to clutch end-product — 21 goal contributions is crazy. If Chelsea build properly around him, he’s only going to get even better!”
Fans think his efforts are going somewhat unnoticed at Chelsea, with other names getting more of the credit for the Blues’ recent successes.
Like this fan, who says: “Enzo is so underrated. His performances always go unnoticed.”
Similarly, this Chelsea supporter says: “Enzo Fernández does the kind of work you don’t applaud in real time—tempo control, transitions, positioning. But the second he’s missing, the entire team feels it. That’s an elite midfielder.”
But fans do have one issue. They don’t think their midfielder gets the same recognition as others in the league who are doing less.
Like this fan says: “They hype the rest and talk down on Enzo, for me Enzo is world class we just not ready for the conversation yet.”
And a hot take from this Chelsea fan drives that point home: “Most complete box-to-box midfielder in the Premier League. Enzo Fernandez is who the media and Arsenal fans think Declan Rice is, when in reality Rice isn’t capable of doing half the things Enzo can.”
Barcelona a tough task for Enzo Fernandez
Fernandez won’t be dwelling on the Burnley game or on the discourse born out of it. He will be thinking about Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Barcelona.
Luckily for him, Moises Caicedo was given the Burnley game off, so he will be at 100% for a huge clash under the lights.
The Chelsea Chronicle predict an XI to face Barcelona with those two in a double pivot, looking to win what is sure to be a hotly contested midfield battle.
Chelsea’s last five results vs Barcelona
Barcelona 3-0 Chelsea – 14/3/18
Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona – 20/2/18
Barcelona 2-2 Chelsea – 24/4/12
Chelsea 1-0 Barcelona – 18/4/12
Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona – 6/5/09
Chelsea come into this one on a brilliant run of form, and a win over the Spanish champions would be a boost in confidence like few others.
One thing’s for sure. Fernandez will be heavily involved, and if recent form is anything to go by, Barca will want to keep a close eye on him.
