Rangers release statement on sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart.
Rangers have sacked Kevin Thelwell as the club’s sporting director.
Thelwell departs the Scottish giants less than six months into his role at Ibrox.
Thelwell served as Everton director of football from February 2022 until the end of last season. He guided the Toffees through a challenging financial period, with the club being hit by two breaches of Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
The former Wolves man trimmed the wage bill significantly and ensured that Everton kept their top-flight status ahead of their move to their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Thelwell was appointed Rangers’ sporting director following their takeover by 49ers Enterprises. Yet the Glasgow side have endured a woeful start to the 2025-26 season, sitting fourth in the Scottish Premiership table and axed head coach Russell Martin.
And now Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart have been relieves of their duties. A club statement said: “Rangers Football Club confirms it has parted company with CEO Patrick Stewart and Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell. Rangers expresses its sincere gratitude to both Patrick and Kevin for their leadership and unwavering commitment to the club.
“Chairman Andrew Cavenagh and Vice Chairman Paraag Marathe have already begun the search process and, until permanent hires are made, Director Fraser Thornton will assume the role of acting CEO.”
