Jürgen Klopp tipped for dramatic return to bench – Liverpool legend needs the drama

When Jürgen Klopp took up his role with Red Bull, the German coach explained that he’d wanted to step away from management following his time with Liverpool.

The 58-year-old has given his all at Anfield, and had success with Liverpool, but it was an intense period. The Red Bull position presented an opportunity to stay in football. Klopp would have more of a backroom role, without the daily stress and drama that being a manager brings.

Not everyone is convinced Klopp will be able to stick at it.

Chief among the doubters is Uli Hoeneß, who believes Klopp will go back on his word and return to coaching.

Germany’s [Tagesspiegel](https://www.tagesspiegel.de/sport/bayern-boss-uber-rb-funktionar-hoeness-uber-klopp-hat-bei-red-bull-keine-zukunft-14922644.html) quote Bayern Munich’s honorary as saying: _“I could never imagine him as an official who travels around the country, to New York, and looks after the different teams. And I don’t think that will be a good model in the long run. I also don’t think he’ll do that forever, I can’t imagine it._

_“I’ve always admired Jürgen Klopp as a coach who is on the pitch. Someone who develops a team, who moves a team forward with his personality. I see Jürgen Klopp on the pitch and nowhere else.”_

Given Liverpool’s struggles this season under Arne Slot, there’s been calls from some fans for a Klopp rescue act. That seems unlikely at the moment, and there’s been no suggestion in Germany that the manager is considering a return to Anfield.

That said, many in the country are convinced he will return to coaching, it’s just unclear where and when.
