Liverpool plot €160 million raid on PSG for 21-year-old utility man

Liverpool are reportedly gearing up to make a €160 million offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfield mainstay Joao Neves.

According to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are looking to add more quality to their midfield, and they have their eyes set on Joao Neves. The Reds are willing to pay around €160 million to try to prise him away from the Ligue 1 champions.

Neves came up the ranks at Benfica and made quite a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining PSG in the summer of 2024. He has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months.

The Portuguese international had a sensational debut campaign at the French club, as he played a massive part in their treble-winning campaign. The youngster established himself as one of their mainstays in no time, and he ended up making 59 appearances across competitions and even contributed towards 17 goals.

While Neves tends to keep a low profile, his performances have certainly resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Despite being just 21, he is already regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. The PSG utility man prefers playing as a central midfielder, but he is capable enough to feature anywhere in the centre of the park and as a full-back.

Liverpool are keen on signing Joao Neves

The youngster’s impressive performances, along with his massive potential, have placed him on Liverpool’s radar. The Reds spent a fortune in the summer to reinforce their attack, but things haven’t really gone according to plan for them.

As a result, Liverpool are now looking to further bolster their squad and want to bring in a top-quality midfielder to add more competition. They consider Joao Neves an ideal fit for Arne Slot’s system and are willing to break the bank to sign the Portuguese international. The Reds are ready to fork out around €160 million to bring him to Anfield.

PSG won’t negotiate his sale

Given his massive potential, the 21-year-old will not only bolster their ranks, but he could end up defining an era at the club. However, signing him won’t be that easy as he is a very important part of Luis Enrique’s plans. The Spanish manager has no intentions of sanctioning his departure.

The Portuguese midfielder has made it quite clear to the PSG board that he wants Neves at all costs. Even the French club do not intend to negotiate his departure irrespective of the offer on the table.

Despite this setback, the Merseyside club are still willing to try their luck. They feel their competitive project and the opportunity to play in the Premier League could help them lure the 21-year-old, who, for now, is completely focused on doing his best for PSG.
