The Patriots’ ninth straight win was costly.
Left guard Jared Wilson and All-Pro special teamer Brenden Schooler left Paycor Stadium in walking boots, while rookie Will Campbell was carted to the locker room with a towel over his head after a knee injury after New England’s 26-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
“We won’t know much,” coach Mike Vrabel said during his weekly appearance on WEEI. “Yesterday was not a great day for us with injuries. There will be some players that went out of that game yesterday that won’t be available Monday night. Hopefully we get some of those guys back. We have an extra day. I won’t be able to tell you much.”
Vrabel expects Campbell to miss more than Monday’s game against the New York Giants.
“I wouldn’t imagine that Will is going play in the game. I don’t think that will be something that will happen,” Vrabel said. “That injury is going to probably be more than a week or two.”
Vrabel asked if Campbell suffered a sprain.
“I think you have to understand sprains have different severities,” Vrabel said. “So, sprain, strain, not sure. But I just know he’s probably not going to be there Monday night, and I don’t think it’s going to be something that’s going to keep him out — this is not career ending. But I wouldn’t anticipate him being out there Monday night.”
Campbell was injured at 5:58 of the third quarter during a TreVeyon Henderson run play. Vederian Lowe played the remainder of the game in place of the injured rookie.
“Nobody wants that to happen,” Stefon Diggs said after the game. “That (expletive) hurts a lot. Those young guys have been playing extremely well. We live in a next man up league and team. I was proud of those guys that went in, did their job, and played at a high level.”
