Player is a revelation since summer Arsenal exit – Even improving his teammates

Since leaving Arsenal in the summer, Jorginho has become a central figure at Flamengo.

His leadership and consistency have helped shape Flamengo’s league title challenge, as they’re 4 points ahead of the second place with three games to go. Also, he was key in their run to the Copa Libertadores final, which takes place this weekend.

Despite dealing with a few injuries, the midfielder has travelled with the squad for every match and remains a constant presence around the team.

Leadership highlighted in Brazil after Arsenal move

Brazilian journalist Venê Casagrande described how much Jorginho has elevated the team since arriving from Arsenal. He called the midfielder a player who’s always fully engaged and acts as “a coach on the pitch”, guiding teammates during every phase of play.

Casagrande also pointed to how Jorginho’s influence helped a young winger deliver one of the strongest performances of his career last weekend.

Newspaper O Globo wrote that the 33-year-old quickly became indispensable for manager Filipe Luís. He dictates Flamengo’s build-up, organises the structure in possession, and has taken over penalty duties without missing a single one yet.

Jorginho has four goals and three assists in 26 matches. Local coverage stresses that both Flamengo’s league campaign and their Libertadores push owe much to his presence since September, especially in moments when the team needed control and leadership.

World Cup Ambition

Jorginho

Brazilian outlet O Dia relayed comments from Jorginho about his international ambitions. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said:“It would be a dream to play a World Cup for the country that welcomed me. My focus is to do the best possible at Flamengo to get the chance to be seen for a call-up. I need to keep working, delivering here, to have that reward.”

He added that any chance with Italy“has to be a consequence of what I’m doing at the club”, noting that Flamengo’s size and international visibility help that push. Italy have missed the last two World Cups, so his hopes also depend on the Azzurri qualifying.

For now, Jorginho remains focused on Flamengo’s decisive final stretch of the season… With all the technique and intelligence that made him a Premier League ace for Arsenal not so long ago.
