The New York Giants had a 27-17 lead against the Detroit Lions in the fourth quarter on Sunday. New York fans knew that even with a double-digit lead, they were going to blow the game.

Well Detroit won the game over New York 34-27 in overtime. The Giants defense let Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs run wild in this game. New York has blown five fourth quarter leads this season. According to Adam Schefter, he posted on his Twitter on Monday, “Giants fired defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, per source.” This was long overdue. Bowen should have been fired earlier in the season.

There are a lot of Giants fans who are excited over the firing of the defensive coordinator. Bowen had one of the worst defenses in the NFL this season. This is what New York fans had to say on Twitter about his firing:
best start to the week

Shane Bowen is not only a bad defensive coordinator, but he’s also the oldest looking 38 year old ever.

Lmaoooooo it only took FIVE 4th quarter leads to be blown for them to finally decide Bowen was in over his head.

Should have happened after Denver – this team is always to slow to react!

Giants fans have been calling for Bowen to be fired all season long and it finally happened. He should have been fired the same day as Brian Daboll as head coach. With Mike Kafka making this move now, it will be interesting to see how New York’s defense will be over the last five weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen will be the interim defensive coordinator. It will be interesting to see how he does because he coaches players like Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. The Giants will next play against the New England Patriots (10-2) on Monday night football. New York has been officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 2-10 record.
