In a major development, Barcelona have reportedly restructured its physical preparation staff, relieving Julio Tous’s team of primary responsibility for player rehabilitation.
This is according to The Athletic, which suggests that the decision came following an increase in complaints from key players and managerial frustration over recurring injuries.
Barcelona have dealt with several high-profile injuries this season, including setbacks to key attackers and midfielders that have compounded the problems for coach Hansi Flick.
Rehab duties reassigned
As per the report, the management had initially elevated Tous to oversee full rehabilitation protocols before the start of the season, expressing satisfaction with his past work. However, player discontent quickly mounted.
Following his return from international duty in Croatia, forward Lamine Yamal formally complained about the handling of his injury and requested a change in the physical preparation staff – a request that was subsequently approved by the club.

Similarly, defender Alejandro Balde reported suffering an injury after what he believed was incorrect guidance regarding the use of a gym device.
The ongoing setbacks led to urgent meetings, particularly after Raphinha suffered a setback before El Clasico, followed by a hamstring tear suffered by Pedri.
The club officially decided to pull the rehabilitation file from Julio Tous’ team. The role of Tous’ staff has now been reduced and returned to a position similar to last season.
He will focus primarily on daily physical preparation rather than overseeing complex injury returns.
This move comes in the midst of recent speculation surrounding a growing rift between Barcelona’s physiotherapists and club doctors, particularly with regard to how Pedri’s situation is being handled right now.
