Former Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is often talked about as one of basketball’s smartest minds. He was also a heck of a passer, averaging 7.9 assists per game for his career, which included two championships, one with the Celts in 2008 and another in 2020 with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Rondo was asked about his passing recently when he appeared as a guest on the All the Smoke podcast, and his response was hilarious. Rondo was read a list of point guards from NBA history, and he was asked to stop the list when he heard a better passer than him. The list included players ranging from Jason Williams and Bob Cousy to Oscar Robertson and Rondo’s longtime rival, Chris Paul. Rondo remained as still and silent as a statue throughout the entire list, which ended with LeBron and Magic Johnson. At the end of the day, though, you have to love the confidence and self-respect from Rondo here. It’s not like he doesn’t belong on that list, either. Rondo was a magician with the ball and definitely one of the best passers and pure point guards during his career, which was an incredibly successful one. Rondo was a three-time NBA assist champ, a steals champ, and also made an All-Defensive team on four separate occasions. His prime with the Celtics happened between 2010 and 2012. In 2010-11, Rondo finished tenth in NBA MVP voting and fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting, while being named to First Team All-Defense. Rondo’s 16-year career spanned 957 regular season games (527 with the Celtics) and 134 playoff games (92 with the Celtics).
