The New York Giants dropped to 2-10 on the year following Sunday’s 34-27 road loss in overtime to the Detroit Lions.

With their NFL season not going as they hoped, the Giants have now decided to fire defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, as per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

This move comes a mere couple of weeks after New York also let go of head coach Brian Daboll, who brought Bowen to the Giants in 2024.
Giants’ defensive meltdowns
New York have experienced a string of blown leads throughout the year with Bowen in charge as the DC, including in Sunday’s defeat to the Lions when the NFC East side were up by 10 in the final quarter.

That marked the fifth occasion this campaign that the Giants defense gave up a double-digit advantage in a game, which is tied for a league record, as per ESPN.

Overall, New York have struggled this season on the defensive side of the ball under Bowen, as they have conceded an average of 27.8 points and 385 yards per contest, and are the 30th ranked defensive side in the NFL.
