In a game where it looked like the Detroit Lions' season was about to come crashing down against the two-win New York Giants, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs came through and put on a show in Detroit's 34-27 overtime win over the Giants.
Gibbs' 15 carries for 219 yards and three total touchdowns ultimately lifted the Lions to the win and saved their season. His 69-yard touchdown run on the opening play of overtime helped set the tone for the Lions before the defense came up with a game-winning fourth-down stop in Detroit territory.
In a game where the Lions' defense struggled to defend quarterback Jameis Winston and gave up two Giants trick play touchdowns in regulation, coach Dan Campbell credited Gibbs for his performance, calling him electric and a game-changer. Campbell also believes that Gibbs bailed the Lions out with his performance.

After Sunday's performance, Gibbs is now 49 yards short of his second 1,000-yard rushing season. Through 11 games this season, Gibbs has 951 yards and 10 touchdowns on 155 carries. Moving forward, the rest of the season, Gibbs' performance will be one of the key x-factors in the Lions potentially securing a third straight NFC North title and going on a playoff run.
Lions earn much-needed win before Thanksgiving showdown vs. Packers
With the win over the Giants, the Lions have now won their 14th straight game following a loss, and this one couldn't have come at a more important time for Detroit. With a pivotal Thanksgiving matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field looming, the Lions remain in striking distance with the Packers and the Bears for first place in the NFC North at a 7-4 record.
A loss to the Giants today, and fans would be having a totally different conversation about their division title chances and the playoffs as a whole. While it's reasonable for a majority of Lions fans to be disgusted about their performance and barely escaping a Giants team that has officially been eliminated from playoff contention, it's all about gutting out a win each week.
The Lions aim to avenge their 27-13 season opener loss to the Packers on Thanksgiving and make a statement in the NFC North title race. The stakes couldn't be higher, and it's up to the Lions to rise to the occasion and split the season series with the Packers.
