Newcastle United Star Stays Silent On His Future Amid Claims Contract Talks Have Been Put On Hold

**Newcastle United fullback Tino Livramento says he is concentrating on his football after being asked whether he will sign a new contract.**

Some less-than-reputable sources have suggested that talks over an extension have been delayed until the summer, and when quizzed on the progress of negotiations, Livramento replied:

“That’s nothing that I’m in control of. I leave that to my dad, to my agent. For me, I’ve been out for seven weeks. I’ve been working really hard to come back and obviously help the team.”

“I’m very happy with how I’ve played. That’s my focus, staying where I’m at now. That’s always been my focus. Helping the team as much as I can.”

Man City are lurking in the background

It has been known for several months that Livramento is a top target for Pep Guardiola’s side. They are keen on finding a replacement for Kyle Walker.

However, up until now, the Magpies have been steadfast in their attempts to keep the former Chelsea and Southampton defender at St James’ Park. While contract talks may not be progressing smoothly, they remain in a strong negotiating positiom.

The 23-year-old still has over two and a half years remaining on his current deal, and the player himself doesn’t appear to be pressing for a transfer away either.

Livramento is back fit and firing

The England international missed nearly two months of football due to a [**knee injury**](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-injury-news-tino-livramento/) he sustained during the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal back in late September.

However, it was a good sign that Livramento managed to play the full 90 minutes on his return to action at the weekend. He performed well against City, helping to keep the in-form Jeremy Doku quiet.

The defender will be keen to build on that display when Newcastle play Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
