There have been whispers of Arne Slot and a potential sacking by disgruntled sections of the Liverpool fanbase online.
spectacularly in recent weeks, transforming what started as a title defence into a full-blown crisis.
The Reds have endured six defeats in their last seven Premier League matches, leaving them languishing in 11th place and 11 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
The collapse is unprecedented for a defending champion—only three teams in Premier League history have suffered six or more losses in their opening 12 games while holding the title.
The statistics paint a damning picture of Liverpool’s freefall. Their recent 3-0 home defeat to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest marked their heaviest Anfield loss since Manchester City won 4-1 in 2021.
Even more alarming, they’ve suffered back-to-back league defeats by three or more goals for the first time since April 1965.
Fabrizio Romano has already reported that it is a “dangerous” situation for Arne Slot.
However, reporting for the Athletic, Paul Joyce has confirmed that Slot is still in the good books of the Anfield hierarchy – but that his credit won’t last forever:
“The head coach retains the backing of the Liverpool hierarchy and he deserves that support given it is only seven months since he won the Premier League title.”
“There is an appreciation of what a summer of transition entails — Liverpool went from having a settled team to a big influx of new players on the back of significant outgoings — and the challenges it creates.”
“For instance, Isak and Wirtz have played together for only 267 minutes.”
“But Liverpool cannot keep losing. Slot must prove his conviction that “there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have” is correct.”
Liverpool are next in action against PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
