Jurgen Klopp has been tipped for a remarkable return to Liverpool. Arne Slot has come under increased scrutiny as the club’s dreadful run of results continues, leading to speculation over his future at Anfield.

The Reds suffered a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, equalling their worst-ever home result of the Premier League era. Liverpool have lost six of their last seven league games and eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions.

It has been a remarkable slump in results for the Reds, having won the league and initially starting the new campaign strongly. A marquee summer transfer window was expected to usher in sustained success, but the latest defeat to Forest has led to questions about Slot’s future, with bookmakers suggesting possible replacements for his job.

Liverpool enjoyed an almost seamless transition from Klopp to Slot last term. However, Oddschecker currently lists Klopp as the favourite to replace his successor, tipping the German coach for a sensational return, around 18 months after stepping down as Liverpool manager.

Klopp is currently working as head of global soccer for Red Bull and has already defended Slot this season. "He’s a super good guy,” Klopp told The Diary of a CEO podcast. “He got the best out of this team, and they became champions in an incredible manner.

“It’s not about Arne showing the world what he can do - it’s about getting the best out of the team. That’s exactly what he did. Change always has an impact. And change always needs time.”

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is listed as another possible contender, being priced as short as 5/1. Glasner previously won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and has impressed during his time in England, leading Palace to FA Cup glory last term.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is listed only slightly further back at 6/1 following his stellar work since joining the Cherries in 2023. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is also included among the contenders at 10/1.

Liverpool icon Xabi Alonso was touted to be Klopp’s successor before Slot was appointed and the current Real Madrid coach is viewed as a slight outsider at 16/1. Elsewhere, Reds legend Steven Gerrard is priced at 25/1, the same odds as his former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Incredibly, Trent Alexander-Arnold is priced at just 66/1 to end his time at Madrid and return to Anfield as manager. Meanwhile, Slot has insisted there is enough talent in his squad to turn their results around, with the Liverpool boss taking responsibility for his side’s recent poor run.

“Of course there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have,” Slot said. “No matter if you win or lose if you make a line-up or make substitutions, when you look back you are also thinking 'where can we do better, where we can adjust?'. But that is something else from doubting yourself.

“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the current losses: you are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never come up with enough excuses for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that.”

The reigning Premier League champions sit 11th in the table after 12 games. Slot tweaked his side after going behind against Forerst, but Liverpool had no answer to Sean Dyche’s team.
