Patriots injury update: Rookie guard Jared Wilson to miss extended time (report)

The Patriots will be without their starting left guard for at least the next month. Whether or not Jared Wilson returns before the playoffs remains to be seen.

The rookie offensive lineman suffered a high-ankle sprain, according to the NFL Network. Wilson suffered the injury during the first drive of the Patriots’ win in Cincinnati. After being carted off the field, he left Paycor Stadium with a boot on his right foot, along with a walking cane.

The next likely move is for Wilson to be placed on the injured reserve.

High ankle sprains can take anywhere from four to six weeks to recover. The Patriots have five games left and six weeks total remaining in the 2025 NFL season. Wilson’s availability will depend on his recovery.

This news comes after it was also reported that Will Campbell suffered an MCL sprain. The starting left tackle was also carted off the field on Sunday.

The third-round pick played center at Georgia, but won the Patriots’ left guard competition this offseason. Wilson started 11 games played at left guard for the Patriots this season.

With Wilson out, the Patriots now turn to Ben Brown to fill the void at left guard.

“I feel horrible for him,” Brown said on Sunday. “Jared’s done some awesome things this year. I felt really bad for him, but I know he’s strong and he’s going to be OK.”

Brown started the Patriots’ Week 4 matchup at left guard against the Carolina Panthers. He didn’t allow a quarterback hit or sack in that game. That marked his first start at left guard in his NFL career.

Brown started 10 games for the Patriots last season at center.

“I played some right guard in college. I didn’t really play as much left guard in college, but I feel just as comfortable at left or right, Brown said. “It was definitely helpful (to start in Week 4) and then working on it in OTAs and training camp. That always helps having those reps already.”
