Chelsea icon John Dempsey has left the majority of his fortune to his widow.

Dempsey, who played in defence for Chelsea and passed away aged 78 last November, has also gifted his two kids his most treasured winners' medals.

According to The Sun, probate documents have revealed the former centre-half left £422,337 to his widow Patricia, known has Tricia. And his son and daughter have received his 1970 FA Cup and 1971 European Cup Winners Cup winners' medals.

Dempsey was part of the Chelsea team that famously drew 2-2 with Don Revie's Leeds at Wembley - before winning the FA Cup in a replay at Old Trafford. His son, Paul, has been left the medal from the win.

Paul was also given his father’s Real Madrid watch and a special recognition trophy presented to the defender by Chelsea in 2008.

While his daughter, Louise Crofts, was handed his 1971 Cup Winners Cup medal - she also inherited his Football League Cup tankard and Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Chelsea paid tribute to Dempsey after his passing last November, sharing a statement on social media.

In a statement announcing Dempsey’s passing, the club said: “It is with tremendous sadness that Chelsea Football Club announces the passing of our former centre-back and FA Cup and European Cup Winners’ Cup winner John Dempsey. He was 78.

“All at Chelsea send our heartfelt condolences to John’s wife Trish and all his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Tributes also poured in from fans: “Sorry to hear about the death of John Dempsey. A very underrated centre-half and as most of you will know a particular favourite of mine for his iconic hairstyles.”

"Really sad to hear that Chelsea’s legendary 1970s centre-back John Dempsey has died.

“My ex-wife’s sister worked for the Philadelphia Fury team when he played there and stayed close to him. As a result I got to chat to him and found him to be a lovely, warm, humble man," a second said.
