Chelsea Boost as Enzo Maresca Issues Cole Palmer Injury Update

Cole Palmer is one step closer to coming back from injury, as Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the forward is back in team training. The England international has been out of action since September 20 because of a groin injury. Then, while he was at home, he broke his toe, further delaying his return.

Palmer’s groin problem, which started during the Club World Cup last summer, has kept him from playing much this season and forced Maresca to change his attacking approach. Enzo Fernandez has been moved up to a more advanced role in his place, where he has helped the Blues score goals and be creative as they try to keep up their momentum in both domestic and European competition.

The club is keeping a close eye on Palmer’s workload. The 23-year-old is currently wearing a protective boot to prevent further injury. Maresca gave an update before Chelsea’s Champions League match against Barcelona, saying that things are looking good for Palmer as he continues to get better:

“We don’t know when [Palmer will be back], but for sure he will be back soon. He is already on the pitch, he’s already touching the ball, and the feeling is good. The last time I spoke with Cole was after the session yesterday to see how he was feeling. But I didn’t ask him details about the injury at all.”

The Italian’s comments make it clear that Chelsea won’t rush Palmer back into competitive action, but the fact that he is training with the team means that a return is getting closer. The London team will have a lot of games coming up, so having him available later in the season could be vital as they try to move up in Europe.

Chelsea Prepare to Face Barcelona

Chelsea will be focused on a crucial Champions League game on Tuesday, November 25, when they host Barcelona. Maresca’s team is in second place in the Premier League, six points behind Arsenal, and in 12th place in their Champions League group, one spot below the Spanish visitors.

The game at Stamford Bridge is likely to be a turning point in the group stage, as both teams seek to improve their chances of reaching the next round. Chelsea have changed their midfield and attack to deal with recent injuries. Barcelona, on the other hand, are the reigning La Liga champions and are known for controlling possession.

Maresca said of Barcelona:

“They’re playing in an amazing way, you always learn from Barca. The way they attack, the way they defend, they won the league last season. So they are a good team, they always have the initiative and we will try to do the same on our side.”
