Liverpool might still be able to turn things around despite their chips being down.
The Reds have had a pretty disastrous start to the season so far that sees them 11 points off the top, with many fans believing their title defence is over already.
Arne Slot may think so too but, of course, he will keep plugging away to find a solution, with there still a small amount of hope that not all is yet lost.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is someone, though, who thinks they can still win the league, even if it may seem a long shot.
But the Scotsman retold a story from 1982 that shows exactly why it is still more than possible.

Liverpool’s coaches gave up on them in 1982, yet they still won the league
Liverpool were absolutely dominant in the late 1970s and 1980s, with this their most successful period as they collected trophy after trophy.
However, after winning the European Cup in 1981, the Reds were looking to take this momentum into the league and win yet another first division title, with many expecting them to do it with relative ease.
However, just like this season, they found themselves in a tricky situation that season, with Souness using this as an example of how they can still win the league.

“When I played there, we lost to Man City on Boxing Day one year [1981] and we went to 12th in the league,” he said on talkSPORT.
“We must’ve been a good team as the season before we won the European Cup.
“We go to 12th on Boxing Day, the staff were at their wits’ ends, and I worked with some of the best football people there have ever been. Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Ronnie Moran.
“And they were onto us obviously, and I could take you now to the very spot now where Joe Fagan said ‘I give up on you now’.
“‘Every bit of information I know, I’ve given you, and it’s still not working. So from now on, you’re on your f—— own. We can’t help you anymore.’
“Suffice to say, we went on to win the league.

“So if you ask me what is wrong with Liverpool right now, I couldn’t tell you because you don’t become a bad player overnight and you don’t lose your belief.
“Slot will be doing everything the same and that is the mystery of football. The league title is still very much on for three or four teams and I have to include Liverpool in that.”
Liverpool will need to win virtually every game from now
During the 1981/82 season, Liverpool lost seven games and ended up on 87 points, four more than second-placed Ipswich.
But this season, the Reds have already lost six, meaning that they can only really lose one more if they are to match their record from that season.
However, it still feels too many already unless Arsenal have a dramatic fall-off, which is more than possible, suggesting it might be over even if they win every game from now on.
