Opposition watch: PSV Eindhoven aiming to extend crazy unbeaten run and pile misery on Liverpool

Liverpool need to bounce back after losing eight of their last 11 games.

The Reds have had a terrible start to the season that leaves them in the bottom half and 11 points off league-leaders Arsenal already.

Their Premier League campaign is considered by many fans as a write-off already, but in the Champions League, there is still a glimmer of hope.

Standing in their way next, though, is PSV Eindhoven, who, on paper, Liverpool will fancy their chances against.

However, delving a little deeper into their season, it shows exactly why this match might be a lot harder than fans perhaps realise.

PSV are on fire this season

Liverpool lost just one game last season in the Champions League and it actually came against Wednesday’s opposition, although they did heavily rotate their team with qualification already confirmed.

This season might be the same, however, as the Dutch side are on fire, with Peter Bosz’s side top of the Eredivisie by six points already.

They have lost just twice all season, once in the league back in August and once in the Champions League against Union Saint-Gilloise, this coming in September.

Since then, they have won eight and drawn three, with there being some pretty emphatic results in there during that time.

The biggest and most impressive was when they beat Napoli 6-2 just over a month ago, with this being their only win of the UCL campaign so far.

They have five points in four games in this competition and sit in a fairly healthy position, and based on Liverpool’s form, they may just fancy their chances.

PSV’s attack will be a big issue

PSV are a team who love to score goals, while Liverpool have been a team this season who cannot seem to stop letting them in, suggesting it could be a recipe for disaster for Arne Slot’s side.

The Dutch outfit have scored 41 goals in 13 Eredivisie games, as well as nine in four Champions League outings, showing how potent they are in front of goal.

As for Liverpool, they have conceded 20 in the league already, with this game having all the markings of being a high-scoring affair.

If there is one player for the Reds to look out for, it is striker Guus Til, with the forward already netting nine goals in the Eredivisie, making him PSV’s top scorer.
