An out-of-favour Liverpool star is attracting interest from four Italian sides

Federico Chiesa is reported to be reconsidering his decision to stay at Liverpool amid growing interest from a number of big clubs in Serie A.

Chiesa moved to Anfield in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth £10m, with a further £2.5m in add-ons based primarily on team performance.

It made the Italian the first signing to arrive at the club during the Arne Slot era and marked a statement of intent despite the winger’s injury issues in Serie A.

Chiesa had been one of the stars of Italy’s Euro 2020 winning squad around three summers before his move to Merseyside. He also scored 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, including 10 in 37 matches during his final season in Turin, but has found first team minutes hard to come by at Anfield.

Federico Chiesa could return to Italy in January

Federico Chiesa is likely to be given an opportunity to return to Serie A in the January window.

Fichajes reports that Inter Milan, Napoli, AS Roma, and AC Milan are all keeping a close eye on any signs of availability as they look to enhance their attacking options in the winter window.

Inter are third in Serie A under Cristian Chivu, and are keen to add further attacking depth to their title-chasing group. AC Milan are managed by Massimo Allegri, who worked with Chiesa at Juventus and themselves are looking to assemble a title-winning squad after coming out on top in the most recent Milan derby.

AS Roma are also on the list, as they seek players who can provide speed and unpredictability to revitalize an attacking front that has yet to find stability. While the same applies to defending champions Napoli, who want to boost their title push.

Chiesa is currently struggling to get into the Italy squad and hasn’t made a single appearance for Gli Azzurri in 2025.

Fichajes explains: “If Slot doesn't adjust his playing time distribution, the Italian will have sufficient grounds to accelerate his departure. Serie A awaits him with open arms, and several sporting projects offer him immediate prominence, something he can't find in England.”

Federico Chiesa has struggled at Liverpool so far

Chiesa is yet to make a big impact at Liverpool under Slot. He made just one league appearance in his first six months at Anfield due to a muscle injury and struggled to get any regular minutes during the campaign as his team comfortably won the league title.

Overall, he played 14 times in total in season one, contributing two goals and two assists, while starting just one league match all season.

He’s featured much more this term, but hasn’t started a match in the league or Europe, with all of his minutes other than the Carabao Cup, coming from the bench. He’s popped up with two goals and three assists, including an important strike on the opening day against Bournemouth, but has only ever been seen as a last resort by Slot when his team are chasing a result.
