Clebeland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell was hyped up after Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders earned his first NFL win.
Shedeur Sanders, the new starting quarterback for theCleveland Browns, may be the most polarizing player in the NFL. But he apparently has a big fan in the Cleveland Cavaliers’Donovan Mitchell.
After theCavaliers 120-105 win over theLos Angeles Clippers on Sunday, November 23, the star guard was hyped up when he learned Sanders, the son of Colorado head coach and NFL legend Deion Sanders, had led the Browns to a 24-10 win over the Oakland Raiders. It was the first win of the fifth round pick’s NFL career.
Sanders, who began the season third on the depth chart, took over in the middle of the game against theBaltimore Ravens last week after an injury to third round pickDillon Gabriel. The Browns are well out of playoff contention, but Mitchell is rooting for Sanders to show out for the rest of the season.
The Cavaliers’ leading man had a vintage performance of his own on Sunday, dropping 37 points on 14-22 from the field with eight rebounds and six assists to lead Cleveland to its fourth win in its last five games.
What Donovan Mitchell Said About Shedeur Sanders
Mitchell was thrilled when he heard about the Browns’ win and gave their rookie quarterback his flowers for his first NFL victory.
“I think I’m the most hype in the locker room,” Mitchell said. “I said before the year started he was going to start at some point. To see him have a good game and a team win that’s big time and I just wanna show him our support.”
Sanders finished his day 11-of-20 for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He is the first Browns rookie quarterback to win his first start since 1995. Even when he wasn’t starting earlier this year Sanders was in the spotlight, as manymedia membersand fans were calling for the former Colorado Buffalo to take the field.
“He’s a talented player and he gets a lot of hate and unfair criticism and all that” Mitchell said. “But this kid’s phenomenal and I hope he has a hell of a career. I’m a fan.”
Donovan Mitchell’s Perfect Timing For Cleveland Cavaliers
Sanders famously released a rap single last year called“Perfect Timing” to pair with his signature touchdown celebration, where he points to a watch on his wrist. Mitchell has been right on time for the Cavaliers this year, as his stellar play has sparked the team’s recent hot streak.
In his last nine games, Mitchell is averaging 29.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists, and the Cavaliers are 6-3 in that span. His three point shooting (39.3%) has also been on point this season, and he surpassedKyrie Irving on the franchise’sall time 3-point field goals list on Sunday.
The Cavaliers will look to extend their winning streak to three on Monday, November 24 when they face the Toronto Raptors. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanskihas not named a starting quarterback yet for the team’s tilt with theSan Francisco 49ers on Sunday, November 30.
