Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been tipped for a stunning return to Anfield. Arne Slot has faced mounting pressure as the club's woeful run of form persists, sparking doubt over his future.

The Reds endured a humiliating 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, matching their poorest-ever home showing in the Premier League era. Liverpool have been beaten in six of their previous seven league games and eight of their last 11 outings across all competitions.

It represents a dramatic decline for the Reds, who clinched the title and began the current season impressively. A blockbuster summer spending spree was expected to bring further success, but the latest setback has raised concerns about Slot's position, with bookmakers already touting potential successors.

Liverpool experienced a virtually flawless handover from Klopp to Slot last season. However, Oddschecker currently lists Klopp as the frontrunner to succeed his replacement, backing the German tactician for a remarkable comeback roughly 18 months after stepping down as Liverpool boss.

Klopp is working as head of global football for Red Bull and has already backed Slot this term. "He's a super good guy," Klopp told The Diary of a CEO podcast. "He got the best out of this team, and they became champions in an incredible manner.

"It's not about Arne showing the world what he can do - it's about getting the best out of the team. That's exactly what he did. Change always has an impact. And change always needs time."

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner features as another potential candidate, with bookmakers pricing him as short as 5/1. Glasner previously won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and has made his mark since arriving in England, guiding Palace to an FA Cup triumph last season.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola sits only marginally behind at 6/1 following his achievements since joining the Cherries in 2023. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery also appears among the runners at 10/1.

Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso was widely tipped to replace Klopp before Slot's appointment and the current Real Madrid coach remains a distant possibility at 16/1. Meanwhile, Reds icon Steven Gerrard is valued at 25/1, matching the same price as his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Remarkably, Trent Alexander-Arnold is quoted at just 66/1 to cut short his spell with Madrid and make a sensational return to Anfield as manager.

Slot has maintained there is sufficient quality within his squad to reverse their fortunes. However, the Liverpool manager accepted full accountability for his team's recent disappointing spell.

"Of course there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have," Slot said. "No matter if you win or lose if you make a line-up or make substitutions, when you look back you are also thinking 'where can we do better, where we can adjust?'. But that is something else from doubting yourself.

"I want to emphasise I am responsible for the current losses: you are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never come up with enough excuses for us to have the results we have. That is far from good enough and I am responsible for that."

The defending Premier League champions find themselves languishing in 11th place after 12 matches. Slot made tactical changes after falling behind against Forest, yet Liverpool were unable to find a response against Sean Dyche's team.
