Blazers' Hurlbert named WHL Player of the Week for second time this season

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers forward JP Hurlbert has been named the WHL’s Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 23.

Hurlbert, the reigning WHL player of the month, is the first repeat winner of the WHL’s weekly award. The Allen, Texas native was previously the WHL’s Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 29. He was also the league’s first Rookie of the Week award winner.

The 17-year-old Hurlbert had six points (four goals and two assists) in three games this week as the Blazers beat Tri-City 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday (Nov. 18), lost 7-4 to Portland Friday (Nov. 21) and then rebounded to beat Wenatchee 4-2 Saturday (Nov. 22).

Hurlbert had two goals in the Blazers’ win over Tri-City and was named the game’s second star. He chipped in with two assists in the loss to Portland and then scored two more in the win over Wenatchee.
