Why Victor Wembanyama’s little brother deserves your attention now

The San Antonio Spurs struck gold during the 2023 NBA Draft when they selected Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick. A player who hasn’t just redefined the limits of what an NBA star can look like, but one who continues to break the game day by day.

Although many consider him a once-in-a-generation talent, did you know he has a younger brother? And here’s a follow-up question: did you know he’s nearly as talented as his All-Star sibling?

Oscar Wembanyama, an 18-year-old prospect out of France, recently posted 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds for SIG Strasbourg — Espoirs Élite. Standing 6'5" with a 6'8" wingspan, he’s a versatile forward capable of scoring at all three levels, shooting a perfect 7-for-7 in his most recent outing.

Victor Wembanyama’s little brother is starting to get attention.

The 18-year-old, Oscar Wembanyama, recently went a perfect 7-for-7 for 16 points and 5 assists against the Chalon Under 21 team in France. At 6’8 with fluid movement, and true two-way impact in France’s Espoirs… https://t.co/Xn0pHmJ6s8

So, what makes him so special?

Oscar has just two full seasons of professional experience under his belt, with this year marking his third. Now a starter for the Espoirs, he’s shooting 52% from the field and 36% from three, showing early signs of becoming a polished, well-rounded prospect. Much like his older brother, Oscar can score from multiple areas of the floor while maintaining a strong defensive presence.

Through nine games this season, Oscar has demonstrated a high-level feel for the game, averaging 8.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per contest.

While he isn’t currently projected as a top-30 pick for the 2026 NBA Draft, Oscar could be selected in the late second round if he chooses to begin his NBA journey early. Conveniently for San Antonio, the Spurs own three second-round picks in the upcoming draft — making a potential Wembanyama family reunion in the Alamo City more realistic than fans may think. Though Oscar hasn’t made any decisions regarding his draft status, it’s something Spurs fans should monitor closely.

Just when you thought there was only one alien in the NBA, it turns out another might be arriving sooner rather than later.
