And while plenty of Red Sox fans would love to see Alonso’s righty bat blasting homers over the Green Monster in 2026 and beyond, there are sure to be a handful of powerful suitors vying for Alonso this offseason, including his incumbent team the New York Mets. When Alonso opted out of his player option at the start of November, fans and analysts alike began dreaming up all different sorts of landing-spot scenarios for Alonso. But what if he simply ends up back with the Mets? New remarks from Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns indicate that New York’s front office pretty much has a blank check to spend this winter, which would allow the Mets plenty of flexibility to bring back Alonso Stearns said, “Sure”, when asked if it’s realistic that the Mets could re-sign Alonso, per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo Asked if re-signing Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz AND acquiring top-flight outfielder is realistic for the Mets, David Stearns replied: "Sure." He added that Steve Cohen remains committed to spending what's necessary."I think anything would be realistic right now," Stearns said.— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) November 24, 2025 Alonso played all 162 games for the Mets in 2025, hitting .272/ .347/ .524/ .871 with 38 home runs, 126 RBIs and 87 runs scored. Story continues below advertisement MLB insiders has collectively estimated that Alonso will land a deal in the realm of five or six years for something between $165 million and $185 million. Alonso’s agent is Scott Boras, who also represents Alex Bregman. Reports from October indicated that Alonso is seeking a seven-year deal.
